~POISON-PROOF YOUR HOME~

I recently received information from the state that gave directions on getting my sons birth certificate. Included in the envelope was some staggering statistics on poison hazards in the home. What I found most shocking is that everyday more than 500 calls are received by the Florida Poison Information Centers. Even more disturbing is the fact that 60% of the calls involve infants and toddlers. In this information was a list of common poison exposures including:

*Household cleaners
*Prescription medication
*Household & garden plants
*Pesticides & insecticides
*Gasoline & petroleum products
*Vitamins with Iron
*Pain killers
*Cosmetics
*Alcohol & products containing alcohol
*Snake, spider bites & insect stings
*Chemicals & chemical fumes
*Cough & cold medications

If anyone in your family is exposed to any of these hazards, call your Florida Poison Information Center at 1-800-222-1222. The advice will be given by an expert and kept confidential.
