When you venture to the store to purchase a scented plug-in, the only thing you are expecting is to add a fresh scent to your home and the last thing on your mind is FIRE. Well, I recently reviewed information that allegedly came from an insurance investigator who was perplexed as to what caused a house fire. You might have received this email as well. The information states that after determining the fire originated in the bathroom, the only thing that the homeowners could attest to having plugged in was a Glade Plug-In. According to the information, the investigator said he has seen many house fires that start in this fashion and he would never use any plug-in fragrance device. Upon researching this further, I found that this is not the necessarily the case. There have been several voluntary recalls made by the CPSC, and invoked by the manufacturer, involving Glade Plug-ins and many reports of fires that could be associated. However, these fires could also be attributed to faulty electrical wiring. There is no conclusive data that leads to a determination that scented plug-ins are any more hazardous than any other electrical device. You can check this out for yourself at snopes and the CPSC. I suppose this is yet another circumstance in which you must decide for yourself if this product makes you personally uncomfortable. Educating yourself is always the best bet. Pass It along!!
